Received leter of September 17. Will write about the stars, sun, and moon, and talk to some G̱usgimukw people about it. Gives lengthy, detailed description of sweat baths used for sick people among "Alaska Indians" (Tlingit). Will write about Kwaguʼł version of sweat baths. Says that hunter do leave notes for others on trails. Discusses role of dogs, use of dogs wool. Gives particular dogs' names and their owners and tribes. Will work on question of different meaning and translations of Indian names. Gives lengthy example of the name q!om'xālāgEles. Finished a map of Dzawadi River with locations of olachen traps. Talked with head chief Maxwayaledze of Ma'amtagila for the names of traps, but he could only remember two.
